The Very Rev. Dr. Festus A. Asana

March 30, 1948 — June 22, 2026

The Very Rev. Dr. Festus Asana was born on March 30th, 1948, in Mambu Bafut — first son of Rev David and Mrs Monica Asana -child of the land whose life would go on to leave an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him from his local community of birth to global platforms and positions of influence.

He completed his primary education in 1963, followed by secondary school at CPC Bali in 1964, and high school at CCAST Bambili in 1970. True to his servant spirit, he returned to CPC Bali for a year to teach before pursuing a higher calling.

In 1976, Dr. Asana graduated from the Faculty of Protestant Theology in Yaoundé — a milestone that would set the course for a lifetime of theological excellence and church leadership. That same year, he entered into holy matrimony, beginning a partnership of love and faith with his devoted wife Jenny that would sustain him through decades of devoted service.

He began his teaching ministry at the Theological College of Nyasoso before serving as Pastor of PCC Djoungolo — now known as Bastos, Yaoundé — from 1977 to 1979. He returned to Nyasoso in 1979, serving as Principal and Lecturer until 1983.

Hunger for deeper knowledge led him across the Atlantic. He pursued a Master of Theology at Harvard Divinity School from 1983 to 1985, then went on to earn his Doctor of Philosophy in Theology from Boston University in 1989 — a testament to his intellectual devotion to the Gospel he so dearly loved.

Returning to Cameroon, he served briefly as Chaplain of PHS Kumba before joining the Theological Seminary as Dean and Lecturer from 1990 to 1999. In 1999, he was elected Synod Clerk of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, relocating to Buea where he served with distinction for a decade.

In 2009, the church he had given his life to bestowed upon him its highest honor — he was elected Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon declaring his watchwords as transparency, accountability, and unity. He led with grace, wisdom, and unwavering faith until his retirement in 2015.

Beyond Cameroon's borders, The Very Rev. Dr. Asana served the global church with the same dedication and distinction. He held leadership roles and participated actively in numerous international organizations and institutions, including the World Council of Churches (serving on both the executive and central committees), the World Communion of Reformed Churches, the All Africa Conference of Churches , and the Worldwide Fellowship of Mission 21 — carrying the voice of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon to the world stage and bringing benefits back home.

Even in retirement, he never truly stepped back. He continued to serve faithfully on various boards of the church, both nationally and internationally, offering his wisdom wherever it was needed. He advocated for, and supported global health activities in the fight against cancer at Harvard, Johns Hopkins, University of Pennsylvania and other institutions.

On June 22nd, 2026, the Very Rev. Dr. Festus A. Asana passed away peacefully in Florida, USA, surrounded by his beloved wife and children. He did not simply leave this world — he went home, as every faithful servant ultimately does, to the God he had spent a lifetime serving.

​

His legacy lives on — in the ministers he trained, the congregations he shepherded, the lives he touched, the family he loved so deeply, and the faith he so beautifully embodied.
